Fire. Give it to Me.

So this computer scientist guy named James Law has nominated the iCub robot to be a torch bearer for the 2012 Olympics. His stated agenda is to honor legendary computer scientist and AI/NBI pioneer Alan Turing (an ANTHROBOTIC favorite, covered here before – he made the HOMO’S DEVIL MACHINE!!    …never gets old).

Anywho, the whole Turing connection and general coolness of the idea appeals – we should begin integrating non-biological lifeforms into everyday activities and ceremonies. But most interesting to me is the humans giving fire to a robot metaphoric symbology going on here.

I mean come on – this is hilarious!  Olympics? Fire? Prometheus? Will iCub’s descendants still believe in us thousands of years from now?
