ANTHROBOTIC ADVICE:  USE A PASSCODE FOR YOUR MOBILE PHONE…  NOW.
The mobile phone is an interesting animal.  For many of us, it’s both a literal and figurative representation of self.  Mobile telecommunication is an amazing technology, and the devices themselves can reveal a wealth of information about an individual.  In fact, I’m preparing an article about the mobile phone as a sort of “information prosthetic,” forgive the plug.

But anyway…   Warrantless mobile phone searches should be considered both a breach of social privacy and, in criminal proceedings, an illegal acquisition of suspect information!

USE A PASSCODE, PHONELOCK, PASSWORD – WHATEVER.
It is currently your only defense.

This is not intended to be alarmist – I am all for openness and the voluntary sharing of information via Facebook or some other social platform.  However, the smartphone is indeed a part of us as individuals (a cybernetic prosthetic!).  We shouldn’t have to share the information it contains or accesses without a court order.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a support project here.
